What is the Box Business Fellowship program?

When students think about careers in Tech they think the only path is engineering. But it takes more than engineering to run a tech company.

The Box Business Fellowship is an opportunity for students to explore business careers in the Tech Industry. We're especially excited to build connections with students who identify with historically underrepresented groups in Tech. Over the course of one month, you will learn business essentials about different roles in business, such as Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success. You will participate in weekly workshops to learn professional development essentials in business and then practice those skills with the help of BBF Mentors. Our co-founders and executives will meet with you to answer your questions and share their experiences. At the end of the program, you will have insight into the career opportunities available and the skills to be successful in those roles.

I knew I wanted to explore the tech industry, but I often felt I didn't belong because I had ZERO technical experience and majored in Political Science and German. But my short journey through BBF showed that there is value in my experience and through the workshops, talks, meeting other BBFers, you realize you aren't alone and there is space for you in this industry. Since then, as a Product Support Specialist at Box, I am using my passion for mentorship and problem solving to help *Blow our Customers mind* by solving complex, technical issues and using those non-technical skills to launch my career in the tech space.

Growing up on the East Coast, people tend to think of “Silicon Valley” as a magical, unattainable place to work if you aren’t a Software Engineer. The Box Business Fellowship immensely helped demystify a career in tech and gives us individuals from under-represented groups much needed exposure to the possible.

Recruiter
I never thought Tech was an option for me since I didn't have a technical background, so being able to see nontechnical jobs was great exposure. Especially after learning the need for diversity the tech field needs, it was important for me to take space and help others find their place.

My experience in the Fellowship was incredibly impactful to my professional development. Aside from doing a very informative deep dive into the world of tech and the many arms that help bring everything together to run a successful tech company, the unique company culture was also tangible. The mentors were genuinely interested in, not only our professional development, but personal as well. The recruiters put significant effort into operating/directing the program in an effective way, and the executives that took the time out of their day to speak to us were very candid and down to earth.

I loved how I was able to learn more about the tech industry while connecting with other students with similar mindset and aspirations. One thing that was great was having a Mentor, they was able to gain a better understanding the day to day role and inspired me to purse a career in tech.
