Why should I work at Box as a student?

Box is a very dynamic organization where placement students have the opportunity to take on a lot of responsibilities and projects. This will give students many exciting opportunities to learn about different business functions by working closely with other teams, which is especially exciting when joining the workforce for the first time.
Additionally, the culture at Box is open and inviting. Boxers are happy to help and answer any questions you may have, work related or otherwise. Employee Resource Communities are great to get involved in too. These are Boxer-led groups that allow you to build your network, meet new people with similar interests and work on projects together.

Lastly, at Box there are lots of great benefits which extend to students:

  • Free snacks and meals in office

  • ‘Fresh air Fridays’ and other companywide days off

  • Phone/Gym reimbursements

  • The opportunity to work from home

I've never worked in an office before, what is the dress code?

At Box we have a smart casual dress code in the office, so don’t worry, you won’t need a full suit.

What does training look like for interns, placements, or apprentices?

Training is very robust at Box which begins with new hire orientation for all Boxers. This will get you acclimated on to how to use Box systems, tools, and resources. For some roles, previous placement students remain during your onboarding to provide day-to-day role-based training, with the assistance of your manager. At this time, your onboarding is their prime responsibility, so they will be on hand to help whenever you need.
Furthermore, customer facing roles such as our Digital Marketing and Product Support will join Box Camp – our sales training to learn more about Box and our products. Other trainings are issued through WorkRamp, our online training portal. We also have various types of trainings through our LearnFest program which is our company wide training which occurs three times a year. Here, you can sign up to courses to further your professional development.

What types of projects do students own?

Placement students are given a huge amount of responsibility at Box, which is part of the appeal of these great placements. From the beginning of your Box experience, you will be given various tasks to own. As you gain more experience and confidence in running projects independently, there will be chances to take on more.
As part of the Recruitment Generalist placement, projects may be recruiting the next cohort of placement students, supporting the employment brand with the careers sites and Box blogs, and running coordination for the whole of EMEA. As part of the Digital Marketing placement, projects may be owning the EMEA Social Advocacy programme and coordinating landing page builds, email marketing campaigns and webinar production. As part of the Product Support placement, projects may include performing data segmentation and finding ways to improve operational efficiency.
There is always an opportunity to create your own projects and initiatives with the support of other Boxers and team members. As a Boxer, new ideas are encouraged! Alternatively, you can take on projects as part of Employee Resource Communities – it has become almost a tradition that each group of placement students to take over the Green Team, our Sustainability ERC.

That sounds like there's a lot to do! What if I feel overwhelmed?

Box offers a clear and thorough onboarding process where tasks get introduced slowly, with the support of previous students to help you day-to-day with your transition. Alongside this dedicated support system, you work closely with your manager and because of the culture at Box, other team members are very approachable and can step in to assist. Managers are available to meet for 1:1 meetings to check in on your progress and well-being. If you do feel overwhelmed, this is the best time to mention it to them and you can work together to manage your responsibilities.
Here at Box, we do understand that starting work for the first time may be new and we want to make sure new members feel as comfortable as possible when joining the team.

Will I have a buddy when I start?

Yes. Your buddy will be a member of the broader team who will be available for questions or support!

Who do I contact if I have additional questions?

You can contact Rachael Bailey, the current Recruitment Generalist placement at rachaelbailey@box.com, for any questions about placements or life as a student. Also, you can contact our HR team at emea-people@box.com for any HR related questions about the placement programme.
